JuiceboxJuicebox feat. Miss Yuli Minguel Sometime ago at the beginning of this century bandleader and tenor saxophone player Rob Berends saw drummer Emanuel Wiemans play in a local bar and the rest is history. Sharing a love for obscure and heavy soul, r&b and boogaloo they started a band called The Mood Elevators, which was soon to become the no nonsense soul sensation we now know as Juicebox. Guitarist Rob de Lange, organist Julien Kummer, singer Tobias Breekveldt and trumpet player Ruud Kleiss were very eager to join. Along with famous New Cool Collective percussionist Jos de Haas they performed at the biggest venues and festivals, like Paradiso, Melkweg, Fietsfabriek and the Oerol Festival. Together Juicebox recorded and released their first album 'Popcorn '69' in 2006 which spread and sold like mad potatoes throughout the world, from the United States to Japan. After having some trouble finding the right bass player and baritone saxophone player they met Michiel van Overmeire and Paul Berding in 2008, which completed the line-up. This version of Juicebox could be called one of the best and tightest soul and boogaloo formations in Europe! Because of high expectations it took a long time to record the follow-up album, which will finally be released this year. The new album also features the amazing soul singer Yuli Minguel. Her dynamic voice techniques, characterized by strength, clearness, as well as Yuli's ability to express herself butt naked before audiences, creates a unique energy. On the 18th of July of 2008 Yuli won the mass media price in Eastern Europe for her performance at the Slavianky Bazar festival seen by 40 million (check YouTube!). Yuli performed in the musical 'Hair' in 2007/2008, and has done backings for Mariah Carey. She toured in 2007 with the European 'Future Sex Love Show' of Justin Timberlake, while doing backing's for his first protégé, the excellent Esmee Denters. In 2002, Yuli became a finalist in the first season of the Dutch Idols. She won the Box talent scout in 1997. From 13 years old she sang with bands in all different styles. Yuli has found equal spirits in Juicebox, and the good news is that they have become her backing band. With their powers and musical abilities combined Juicebox featuring Miss Yuli Minguel are about to stir the souls of countless people over generations. Are you ready for these rare and beautiful performers? 100% pure dynamite!!! JUICEBOX - new feeling 60 ' S Soul coming from Holland!!! In vein of the sounds Stax and Muscle Shoals... "Popcorn 69" is the first album of Juicebox, produced by Hippo Records in Holland, on which one finds the new versions of 14 "traditional" 60 ' S Soul R' B. The Netherlands were one of the first European countries to succumb to Soul vagueness at the beginning of the Sixties. Ground of R' B, Holland has had, for a few years already, its own Soul/R' scene B, of the musicians and the excellent groups. Juicebox is one of the spearheads of this movement... More than of the copy, JUICEBOX takes as a starting point the the tradition soul and the emene further. Do not mistake, the sound is well anchored in the 60 ' S but energy is that of the years 2000. Great & top arrangements, all raw and groovy, exceptional sound with analogic recordings !!!!!!Styles : European Grooves, Groove Revival - Groovecollector Guide ID : 3908 's fun, timeless, and a must for any fan of 60's R&B and boogaloI was just reading an article proclaiming the return of the Stax record label when this came along, another sign that this modern world of ours will, with any luck, never be able to let go of the indelible pop, soul and R&B sounds of the sixties. This is a collective who is doing their part to a staggering degree. More than just a group content to pay their respects and move on, these are musicians who have worked (I must imagine, extremely hard) to faithfully replicate these classic numbers and truly create an album that stands up, in heart and musicianship, to the originals. That is not to say that this is a cover band, because there's more going on here than that. This is both honoring and adding to the form, with a newer generation of artists lending their skills and passion to a genre that remains as exciting and affecting as it was 40 years ago. These are songs of sly complexity and vigor, getting in and out within 3 minutes running time but sticking with you for the rest of the day. Short (but present) guitar and horn solos make appearances throughout, but mostly these tunes remain heavy on groove, feel, and genuine soul. It's fun, timeless, and a must for any fan of 60's R&B and boogaloo. - FRONT PAGE of CD Baby |
