Scallymatic Orchestra
Scallymatic Orchestra has been a growing force on the Dutch (nu-)jazz scene ever since they started out in 2000. Their fresh mix of jazz with soul-, funk- and '70s grooves has a distinct modern sound with a slight retro touch, which may be described as The Scallymatic Sound. With catchy grooves, cool themes, enough room for improvisation and a good dose of suspense, the band convinces both club crowds and the discerning listener. Scallymatic Orchestra plays original composition by guitarist/bandleader Mathijs Duringhof. Recently Scallymatic Orchestra played festivals and venues such as IJazz, Uitmarkt, Jazz in Duketown, Paradiso, WATT, Jazz&Beyond, etc. April 2009 Scallymatic Orchestra released it's long awaited and much anticipated debut album 'Annie get your gun' on Flyin' High Records. This album captures the spirit of eight years of playing, and contains compositions written throughout that period. The album contains several interesting features, which contribute to the already very versatile album: colaborations with singer and longtime companion Paul van Kessel, contributions from Han Litz (flute), Stefan Schmid (Moog) and Wieke Garcia (vocals). Not on the album, but as a download release (free if you buy the cd) and on exclusive limited 7" vinyl they released the beautiful & catchy popjazz song 'All I can give' featuring Mr. Benny Sings (Dox/Sonar Kollektiv). The download release comes with remixes by a.o. [Moto], Black Gold 360 and the Jazzinvaders. The 7" single has 'Do it again' ft. Paul van Kessel on the flip. The album 'Annie get your gun' is now released on P-Vine Records in Japan as well. Line up:
