The annual Jazz meeting in Rotterdam was a great success. Once more a great opportunity for The Dutch Nu-Jazz Movement to promote itself. With members of State of Monc, The Jazzinvaders and Scallymatic Orchestra being present, we received very good feedback on the upcoming album by Scallymatic Orchestra ft Soul Mack and lots of people seemed to enjoy the live performances by The Jazzinvaders (live at Radio 6 as well as their successful showcase later that night). During the end of may State of Monc did a small but very successful tour in Germay. It started at a great temporary club in Görlitz ( Alte Fabrik Halle ). A crowd of 300 went in with them and came out chearing. Next : Berlin ( b-flat Acoustic Music & Jazzclub), a straight jazz club with a sitting audience. Happily people loved it…even in a acoustic jazz club. Hamburg was their debut in Jazz am Stellwerk, a club in the ‘Bahnhof’. Great ambience, great club (with a spanking new PA) and very good received. They will hear more of State of Monc. That’s for sure. Thanks to everybody for being there. Keep your ears alive!
Looking out for some more Dutch Nu-Jazz?? This weekend, on July 2nd, both State Of Monc and Monsieur Dubois will host the Dutch Nu-Jazz Night at Rotterdams most acclaimed jazz venue Lantaren/Venster. You will get a fresh update on the two bands: Monsieur Dubois will present the brand new album SLOW BOMBASTIK while State Of Monc demonstrates its current skills operating as a flexible 5-piece unit. To make it even more spectacular they’ll bring their veejay as well because nothing beats this groovy combination of visuals and ultra danceable jazzy beats. To fix the evening, DJ Onno Paloma, whose taste is as wide as exellent, will keep the vibes going before and after the shows… More information can be found on the website of LantarenVenster. State of Monc will start a new series of gigs this april, kicking off with a show in Paradox, Tilburg on april 9th. Afterwards the band will do shows in Belgium, Germany and Malaysia, and of course in The Netherlands. Check the website!

Since the German release of Phantom Speaker on November 12th, the press over there has written a lot of great reviews about the album. For State of Monc the gig last week in Berlin was like a pre-release party, because they will release their latest album Phantom Speaker in Germany on November 12th. Sound Camp is the label and OUR distribution will distribute the album in all GAS countries. The band is currently planning more gigs in Germany this year, together with The Jazzinvaders.
Apart from the well known Popkomm, for the first time there was a JAZZKOMM this year, a new meeting platform taking place simultaneously with Popkomm and the Berlin Jazz Meeting (8-10.09). The Dutch Nu-Jazz Movement was present at this conference and did a double showcase at the notorious Frannz Club featuring The Jazzinvaders and State of Monc. On Wednesday 24.03, the Dutch Nu-Jazz Movement is going to present its first official joint release: “WHAT’S NU?”. A brand new album filled with tracks by all four bands, recorded especially for this cd and soon available worldwide through Social Beats/Unique Records. Apart from new band tracks, a hand full of remixes were added by Phil Martin, Part Time Heroes and State Of Monc for extra appetite. We’ll promise you a packed program in March, with shows by The Jazzinvaders, Monsieur Dubois and State Of Monc and the charming support of MC Lennie St Luce and DJ Philippona. Party will be held at the Paradiso (upstairs) and starts at 20h30 (door: 19h30).
State of Monc entered 2010 with a fully packed Bimhuis in Amsterdam last month. The legendary concert room was sold out and could hardly capture over 400 enthusiastic listeners. Luckily the VPRO recorded this evening, Radio 6 broadcasted it live, and now you can listen to the full concert and watch video snippits HERE.
