Scallymatic Orchestra joins DNJM

We’re happy to announce a new member of the Dutch Nu-Jazz Movement! Ever since they started out in 2000, the Scallymatic Orchestra has been a steady force in the Dutch circuit as well as in the international (nu-)jazz scene through various releases. Their typical Scallymatic sound is a mix of jazz, soul, and 70s grooves that combines a warm retro touch with a distinct modern feel. The Scallymatic Orchestra is currently working on a new album which features their version of the great and timeless music of Jimi Hendrix: a nasty cross-over of vintage rock, jazz and soul into the Scally blender. Follow their progress here or tune in to the radio (also see agenda).

New release of the Jazzinvaders: third album

Following their successful album releases ‘Up ‘n Out’ (2006) and Blow! (2008) which received rave reviews from DJs, press and audiences all over the world, the Jazzinvaders are now ready for their next ride with their third album simply called “3”. They deliver their strongest work to date.  The Jazzinvaders obtain new territory on this album. This time they didn’t get their inspiration of the 60’s hardbop souljazz sound but from artist who developed their style in the 70’s funkjazz, artist like Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers and Earth Wind & Fire. Of course not done as a retro style, but taking the attitude and bend it in to a real Jazzinvaders thing !

Monsieur Dubois celebrates 5 years Stellwerk

It’s been 5 years already since Jazzclub im Stellwerk, one of Hamburgs finest live jazz joints, first opened its door. Monsieur Dubois has been there from the start and came back many times over the years. And there’s more than enough to celebrate: Surviving as a jazzclub is never easy. To even grow and become a steady meeting place over the years deserves all respect and applause. To celebrate Stellwerks anniversary properly, Monsieur Dubois will be around all weekend and treat Hamburg on some “Great Shit” as they put it. Last but not least joining in on Saturday, Germany’s heaviest Secret Soul&Funk Weapon: DJ Soul Rabbi

Dutch Nu-Jazz @ Jazzkomm Berlin

Apart from the well known Popkomm, for the first time there was a JAZZKOMM this year, a new meeting platform taking place simultaneously with Popkomm and the Berlin Jazz Meeting (8-10.09). The Dutch Nu-Jazz Movement was present at this conference and did a double showcase at the notorious Frannz Club featuring The Jazzinvaders and State of Monc. You can read a short impression on the whole event at the Dutch channel 3voor12.
