Biografie Lee Fields
Renowned throughout the global Funk community, Lee Fields has poured his grunts and screams over a legacy of funk and soul hits from the early seventies, including such 45 rpm classics as She’s a Lovemaker, The Bull is Coming, and The Funky Screw, not to mention his well sought after Let’s Talk It Over LP which draws four digit bids from collectors worldwide. His recordings with the hard funk purists at Desco, and Daptone Records in recent years has solidified his place as the King of contemporary funk music as well.

Lee was born and raised in the small town of Wilson, North Carolina, one of 4 children. He spent his adolescence singing in church and listening to Rhythm & Blues Artists such as James Brown, The Temptations, Eddie Floyd, Otis Redding and a lot of the Memphis Sounds.
He joined a few racial balance groups in the South and began playing college circuits that included East Carolina University, Duke University and Georgia Tech. By the late sixties, Lee had begun his singing career, working with bands which would lay the foundation for funk music including Kool and the Gang, Sammy Gordon and the Hip-Huggers, and Little Royal. Since the late sixties, Lee Fields has been working his show relentlessly through the Blues circuits of the South, an experience which has brought the essence of his soul up to the surface of every word he utters, chilling grown women’s spines with his moans of intimacy and groans that make young girls nostalgic for the sincere days of soul when people like Otis Redding and Dyke and the Blazers left microphones rusting with sweat and tears.

On the national Blues circuit, Lee has worked with numerous legendary artists such as B.B. King, Clarence Carter, Dr. John, Tyrone Davis, Johnny Taylor, Denise LaSalle, Bobby Blue Bland, Betty Wright, The Manhattans, Little Milton, Bobby Womack, and a host of others. In addition, Lee’s explosive live performances fronting The Soul Providers, and The Dap-Kings as part of the Desco Soul Revue, and most recently singing with The Sugarman Three & Co. in the Daptone Funk & Soul Revue have kept him on top of the Funk scene internationally. If you are looking for an exciting, unforgettable experience, don’t miss Lee Fields in concert whenever he appears in your area.
